Black Napkins this is important

Hooper_X Holy christ. Hope those guys are okay.

Merkwuerdigeliebe Giorgi Targamadze (pictured behind the anchor's desk) resigned from journalism and has gone on to found a political party which came in third of twelve eligible parties, at 8%, in the May 2008 Georgian legislative election. Pretty good for a grass-roots start up.

Here is a pre-election interview with him which discusses the raid:

jihadbaby That's called keeping your shit together.
Smellvin Oh Georgia... when do you ever NOT have something ridiculous going on?
doc duodenum We've been training these guys to serve in Iraq. Oops.
Mayberry Pancakes God damn. It'd be worth hearing in the original Georgian just for his voice. Somebody on YouTube offers this translation:
Giorgi Targamadze, a leading Imedi TV journalist: "I really hope, really do hope that they will not attack people physically. But there is loud noise at [the television station] and something terrible is happening. So far we are still on the air, but the guests have arrived. Goodbye, and don't worry. Everything will be all right."
Unidentified voice: "Turn it off!"
Targamadze: "It's off. We are not on the air anymore."
"Everything will be all right". Balls of steel.

Roachbud And Shakashvili was supposed to be a good, democratic leader after that Shevardnadze douche
x I admit that I've never heard of Shakashvili.
This guy reminds me of David Duchovny.
Rafiki Wow.
Unmerciful Crushing Force God damn. Anyone ever watch the documentary "Power Trip?" This plays out like the most depressing follow-up possible to it.
In any case, 5 stars for keeping composure in ways few of us could ever hope to do.
Caminante Nocturno That is a kind of bravery I thought no longer existed in people who worked in news.
Menudo con queso But I thought Bushie said Saakashvili's Georgia was a "beacon of liberty"! I'm so confused now. It must be sound of the dominoes of democracy clattering down all across Asia, just like Wolfowitz promised.
This guy is awesome, a real class act. My pants would be permanently ruined in a moment like this.
LetsFistAgain Also, Khadafi has no uranium left and Saudi Arabia are moderates.
SolRo This does not bode well for ukrane
Roachbud Ukraine is different, they have more of a history of democracy and they are more Western than Georgia. Even Yanukovych wouldn't be this blatant.
Maxville 5 stars for the ticker at the bottom keeping us updated on the days soccer matches.
Stopheles God damn. I hope the people in the studio were unharmed.
HURF BLURF DUH I seriously pray that we never get to see this in English.
bang to buck ratio Oh my god.
Aoi Hack writers of drama wish they could make a situation like this sound half as poignant.
sosage I can't imagine anyone from our televised "press" keeping it together like this guy. All I can do is hand out 5 stars and hope that they are doing alright.
dr_mr_vandertramps holy shit.
NineEleven It could have been worse. They could have shot him on air. Then everything goes to static. Then you hear a knock on your door.
theFlu There seems to be a surge in quasi-fascist, new world order-type bullshit -- from the constant threat of being under attack at any moment / the suspension of civil liberties in "war time," to leaders attempting to stay in power beyond their term (pakistan and bush's proposed tampering with the 8-year term limit), and many worse instances...
It greatly pisses me off that, while all these terrible events unfold before our eyes, our generation is far too apathetic to actually rally and do anything about it - but, of course, we post blogs and sarcastic comments...
Roachbud Bush isn't tampering with his term limit, there is a clusterfuck to fill his spot
drcrypt Seriously. Why the hell do I keep hearing people claim this like it's a fact?
Explodotron I think is actually a 10 year limit, in case the VP takes over for th President. That way he can be voted in twice more if time allows. Don't quote me on this... it's been a while since 4th grade social studies.
Aubrey McFate Bad situation, great reporter.
Valkor Professionalism at its best.
toothsome Interesting fact: Rupert Murdoch's News Corp owns 49% of Imedi media and will soon hold a controlling interest if this current crisis doesn't interfere. The guy who owned Imedi before, who helped put the current government in power in 2003 and has since come to oppose it, is selling his shares so he can go into politics.
Supposedly, at a press conference to announce the deal, the head of News Corp Europe recited the slogan, "We report, you decide," to stress that Imedi would remain a source of independent news.
Frank Rizzo speechless, my troubles dont seem to matter now.
Camonk Man that guy is completely raw. One more dumb American hoping these people are all okay.
Dr Dim A class act.
Billie_J_Buttfuck Amazing, truely.
Repomancer That guy kept his cool amidst a mind-blowing situation. Really incredible.
Frank Rizzo hes a pro. He knows people are watching and I think he knows that by going "OH FUCK!!!!!!!!! SHIT!!!" will not help the people
cakewalk my only gripe is that the reporter doesn't get buttchecked out of his chair by georgian secret police at the end
K Clobber I don't have anything to say that hasn't already been said. I wish our reporters still had balls like that.
bac that was...amazing, it took me a minute to figure out that it was there news station...christ-mas.
Keefu Here are our guests
FeeFiFoFoTheFifeFifeBrown "I seriously pray that we never get to see this in English."
Might it not be better for us if we did?
Evilhead That's composure
Long Gone Daddy This man is a reporter on the station owned by News Corporation, which is supporting the opposition to current ruling party. They, in turn, achieved power by using a Soros-owned satellite TV station to foment revolution against Eduard Shevardnadze.
So basically what you're seeing here are troops from one TV station invading another.
GusPlease I thought shit like this only happened in the opening to Tiberian Sun.
Cleaner82 Oh for fuck's sake. Grow up quickly or the world will eat you.
