Is there good software to turn an .flv or avi into an animated gif? I've been using screen-caps and gimp and it seems like such a waste of time.

For .avi files I've always used Adobe Premiere and exported it to gif. There are probably simpler ways to do it.

Building anigifs with individual screencaps sounds... painful.
