then they all graduated and realized high school doesn't matter

jrr - 2007-12-23

But schooling still relies... in a Jap's ass. With lots of kicking.

Tetsuo - 2007-12-21

at least a partial dupe

Triggerbaby - 2007-12-21

How did this make it through the hopper?

Xenocide - 2007-12-21

This game was a wonderful excersize in ridiculous Japan-ness.

The giant hairy incredible hulk-looking guy with the monocle is a high school principle, and there was a school consisting of nothing but stereotypical American students (the big strong black guy went there, of course, along with an almost-naked cheerleader and an impossibly rich white kid.) Also there was a middle-aged balding math teacher who was an elite karate warrior (that's him on the left at 1:32)

A lot of that is lost in the video, but reminding me of that kind of good crazy is worth five stars.

plaid_knight - 2007-12-21

Agreed on the japan-happiness of the vid. The rivalry between the nationalist Japanese and American kid is great, too.

sosage - 2007-12-21

Isn't the cheerleader a boxer?

These stars are also for Capcom.

Adramelech - 2007-12-22

Rival Schools is definitely one of the most stereotypically Japanese games ever made, even today.

Lindner - 2007-12-21

I was a big fan of this back in the day... Enjoyed Project Justice on the Dreamcast.

Caminante Nocturno - 2007-12-21

After-school activities represent, yo.

Xenocide - 2007-12-22

Gotta love the sports-themed school. If varsity soccer doesn't teach you how to beat a man unconscious, you're not doing it right.

NineEleven - 2007-12-21

i've never seen an animation style quite like THIS before!

Cap'n Profan!ty - 2007-12-21

what the fuck did i just watch

revdrew - 2007-12-21

Man that happy ending was happy. This my favorite Capcom fighting series. Fuck SF4, I want another Rival Schools.

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2007-12-21

The scene with the director/old guy having all the chicks fawn over him represents everything I've come to hate about anime, which why this gets four stars.

That, and the casual happy fish-stabbing.

Adramelech - 2007-12-22

Shonen parody?

Billie_J_Buttfuck - 2007-12-21

I fucking love this game.

I really wish they'd continue the series. The animation isn't great, but it's a fighting game, for christ's sakes.

Mike Tyson?! - 2007-12-22

I forgot I had this game, too bad the US version was so poorly translated with missing features. :(

Dr Dim - 2007-12-22

It's dildos.

Big Name Celebrity - 2007-12-22

The sequel was released on the Dreamcast as "Project Justice", and was, of course, a fucking blast.

There was also some sort of RPG released in Japan on Dreamcast, but you'd need to buy a Jap DC, and learn Japanese, etc., etc.

Even I'm not that big a fag.

FABIO2 - 2008-01-22

This isn't the slightest bit interesting. Not in a self-parody sort of way, and certainly not in an actual quality kind of war.

Big Name Celebrity - 2008-08-26

Do you like anything?

I'm asking seriously.
