John Bonham was reincarnated as a North Korean girl.

To me, North Korea brings to mind those poor kids who get locked in a basement for their entire lives by a psycho parent, and even after release and rehabilitation, they cannot learn how to speak or stand upright. It's astounding to imagine an ENTIRE COUNTRY traumatized in this way.

this was followed by a commercial for the brand new 1966 Dodge Charger

The most tortured smile I've ever seen in my life.
Anaxagoras - 2010-08-25
All N. Korean shows feature that same horrible rictus. God, what a horrible country. (Plus there's that whole torture/oppression thing.)

jangbones - 2010-08-25
at 1:29 you can see the reflection in her eyes of the guy just off camera waiving a gun at her

Smellvin - 2010-08-25
Not shown: the 16 hours a day of forced practice and the death that awaits if she misses a beat.

HA! I get myself a South Korean government censorship page when I try to view this on YouTube. I guess they are worried that this actually has a chance of making someone wish they were in the North instead of the South.

What's with N koreans and their obession of seeing kids drumming?
chumbucket - 2010-08-26
they need kid volunteers to drum in front of the mobile missile launchers in order to strike fear into the heart of the infidel enemy (despite them being far out of earshot)

...Overdubbed. It's like they made a midi drum track of what her playing sounds like. Very strange.
Ursa_minor - 2010-08-26
No they didn't. She's not precise at all.

I don't even know what you're saying, but there are no non electronic drums on the planet that sound like what you're hearing in this clip.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2010-08-25
She must be from the upper crust of North Korean society.
codehappy - 2010-08-26
There are no words for how sad these videos make me.
Jet Bin Fever - 2010-08-26
Funny how this clip is harder for me to watch than those giant abscess ones.
Ursa_minor - 2010-08-26
I want her to escape and start an obtuse new york art punk band with me.
DrDoalot - 2010-08-26
Pity and remorse have an amazing way of interceding jealousy depending on where the seeming prodigy has been raised. The only consolation I can see is that her predominance in this will provide her a better life than most of her peers.
Cockmaster Flash - 2010-08-26
The large drum kit hides the signs of malnutrition pretty well.

For those curious, search on YouTube for North Korea and watch some of the docu's that have been taped in and outside the country. Good fuck, it is beyond insane. Some have been featured here, but there a whole shit load else where as well.
PANDAR - 2010-08-26
I would bet that she's actually a very happy little girl aside from the overly vigorous drum training from mom or dad. As long as she wasnt in a prison camp of course. That kind of music training you see all over the world coming from the hard ass Asian school of parenting (which sucks for the kids). But American parents do it with sports (olympics, tennis, etc) and beauty pagents too. Bottom line..... fuck parents who force their kids to do anything to such an extreme!!!!
codehappy - 2010-08-26
"Mom and Dad" don't see much of her. Most likely the state sent her to the Mangyondae Schoolchildrens' Palace at age two or three and there she spends every waking hour practicing her drums and praising Dear Leader.

That does make her one of the luckier North Koreans: at least they feed her.

PANDAR - 2010-08-26
ok. that is so sad. youre probably right.
