cognitivedissonance I live in a Republican pocket borough where all the minor offices are uncontested, so I wrote in "A Tuxedo'd Baboon" because I know the local paper prints all the write-ins.

CharlesSmith Anyone care to wager what all this "Not all Catholics are Christians" gibbery-goo is supposed to mean?
|
StanleyPain The age-old, fundie Christian insanity thing that Catholics don't quite count as Christians. The reasons are many and varied depending on what brand of crazy person you are talking to but it usually boils down to Catholics having a pope (PUTTING SOMEONE IN FRONT OF JEBUS), allowing sainthood and statues and idols in their churches, and the fact that most Catholic diocese tend to be traditionally more progressive.

themilkshark When I was in high school, I asked a girl out and she said no. I was humiliated, and suffered for the next ten years. I would like to make a law stating that no high school age girl may reject a date from a male classmate. Vote for me, I'm not on the ballot either.

Stopheles The Tea Party is "really angry" about "needless wars, chemical and biological warfare"?
Huh.
Also: Catholics confessing and taking Mass once a week doesn't absolve them of their sins, but she isn't still going to Hell for having an abortion 25 years ago before magically choosing Jesus? Explain, please.
|
Stopheles Crap, I meant 36. I guess I was just deluding myself into believing that I was significantly younger than I am.

pastorofmuppets Confession *does* absolve sins, even mortal sins. But abortion is special in that causes immediate excommunication.
The "excommunication" can be absolved in for a number of reasons, one of which is that you were young and stupid, another is that you didn't know abortion caused excommunication.
What this means in practice is that (and this is true of all mortal sins) you're not supposed to take eucharist until you've gone to confession.
