So who's played this game? Is it good, or a BioShock knockoff like everyone said it was?

Pillager - 2012-10-11

I love it.

I treat it as a sand box that Edward Gorey designed. I savored every nook & cranny. All the little creepy details are what made it work for me.

Gameplay rocks, whereas the story was a bit of a let down...

i think you just sold me this game with "sandbox that edward gorey designed"

Would a Bioshock knockoff NOT be good?

fedex - 2012-10-11

thats what the reviews say, if you play as a A to B goal-oriented game youll finish it in a day and miss 80% of the best stuff, which as Pillager said is all in the details and corners of the world, lots and lots of sub plots, characters, mini-missions and objects which somehow all tie in to the major goals.

Bioshock was incredibly disappointing to me based on the initial video, but still a great game. This looks like lots of fun.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-10-11

Bioshock was disappointing because it hyped "PLAYER CHOICE!"

You got three endings, and two had the same script read in a different tone of voice. Otherwise, the playthrough was identical apart from what you did to one or more little girls.

It was pretty, the setting was interesting, and the plot twist was fairly well executed, but it was hardly the groundbreaking game it was hyped to be.

I just finished the game. Took me about 30 hours, but I explore every nook and cranny.

It delivered what I wanted from Deus Ex: Human Revolution. IE, a game that gave me room to develop my own play style and have that affect the outcome. I played with as few murders as I felt I could get away with. One guy I chose not to kill both times I met him.

Instead of an endgame with a huge boss fight, I got one that ended with despondent surrender on the part of the bad guys. It was enormously satisfying.

Dishonored is one of the best games I've played.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-10-11

I haven't played it, but there's a complete walkthrough on YouTube already (here's part 1):

The reviews I've read so far don't say it's very sandbox-y. In fact, while they do like the game and insist it's fun, the biggest complaint is how linear it is. Maybe it's just better at masking the railroading than other games if its kind.

jimmicampkin - 2012-10-11

If it tells a good story, is gorgeously immersive and atmospheric and helps me forget Bioshock II, it can railroad all it likes.

Maru - 2012-10-11

Does that video look immersive to you?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-10-11

Additional: This game has some of the WORST voice acting I've heard in a long time. Whoever the guy is that's giving you magic powers sounds like he's just reading his lines off of cue cards.

I thought Hong Kong Phooey was going to break out into Sweet Dreams when the alarm started.

The Zybourne Clock appears to have come along quite nicely.
