This is season 10, so they've explained a lot already.

I remember watching the earlier episodes and just reeling on how pedestrian the humor is. It's like the "Family Matters" of Science Fiction.

Gawd, it certainly hasn't gotten any better.

If you're watching Red Dwarf for it's deep and complex character interaction and evolution, then you might be doing it wrong.

This is delightfully senseless.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't expect more out of it, and gladly take Red Dwarf for what it is: a dumb comedy set in space.

14 is probably the best age for Red Dwarf.

Yeah, i found myself tuning out in seasons 7 - 9, and that back to earth thing could have been amazing, if they'd actually done something cool and not done to death and reheated millions of times. They did that alot in the earlier series, a weird gimmick or idea you'd seen a ton of times but some tiny twist or joke or character interaction that really makes it pop. Series 10 seems like a return to form. I like the improved set design, and honestly think if they did this correctly, they could have a serious popularity revival.
