How was this not on here before?

I have to admit the first time I saw it, having not seen the original context, I wondered why the ponies appeared to be sporting diseased penises in various places.

EvilHomer - 2013-05-29

I'm surprised it made out of the hopper, to be honest. Even blue chip poe-worthy pony vids can struggle to make the requisite +7 votes before the Moral Guardians catch on and downvote it to hell. But a PMV? You'd think that between the people who REALLY HATE PONIES, and the people who really hate Anime Music Videos, this one'd be stillborn.

EvilHomer - 2013-05-29

I really don't know how to rate this.

Fluttershy would NEVER swear like this. It just doesn't make sense, given what we know about her character. What's more, the song she's singing is a barbed satire of the sexist, profanity-riddled hiphop that seems to dominate the genre. Satire can be viewed as a type of prank, yet s01e05 "Griffon the Brush Off" CLEARLY establishes that Fluttershy is uncomfortable with the very idea of pranking. Are we *really* supposed to believe that Fluttershy would sing a song full of cusswords, a song whose main purpose is to mock and belittle the activities of a certain subset of hiphop artists, regardless of how much said hiphop artists deserved it?

?!

On the other hoof, I'm willing to believe that this is the sort of thing Pinkie Pie would write. Were The Hub allowed to show us the sort of PG-13 activities the ponies doubtlessly get into from time to time, we'd be seeing plenty of precedent for something like this. And Fluttershy is a very good friend to Pinkie Pie, so I guess one could argue that Fluttershy would be willing to sing a song with cuss words, if it was for a friend, and if there were extenuating circumstances involved... such as Pinkie Pie's tongue swelling after coming in contact with Poison Joke. The fact that Fluttershy is often reluctant to take a stand and help her friends until the very last minute (I know some of you are just ITCHING to point this out), can be discarded in this instance, because Fluttershy is not placing herself in any direct physical danger by doing a Reggie Watts rap.

On the OTHER other hoof, even if we're to concede that Fluttershy might be willing to say "fuck shit" in order to help a sick friend, this song just plain doesn't make sense, given the context of the episode. This video is entitled
"What Pinkie's Song Actually Sounded Like", implying that the creator of this video intends for his work to be understood against the broader narrative of the episode in question. But it does NOT make sense within the narrative of this episode. Pinkie's song, as most of us are aware, was intended to be a direct reference to, and critique of, Zecora the Zebra. So how does "Fuck Shit Stack" by Reggie Watts apply to Zecora? Well?! What, does Pinkie Pie think Zecora is some kind of shallow, sexist, materialistic MC? Why would Pinkie Pie think that, given what little she knows about Zecora at this point in the story? The only explanation I can come up with is: maybe Pinkie Pie's a racist. Cuz, y'know, buying extravagant rims and filming shaking asses is something that negro-zebras like Zecora would do, right? I don't know about the rest of you, but I simply can't accept this interpretation. While a case can certainly be made for racism in regards to the relationship between the ponies and Zecora, it's simply too much to assume that Pinkie Pie would have access to such a well-developed appreciation for negative African American social tropes. So unless I'm missing something here, it looks like we're faced with one of two option: either the song Pinkie "actually" wrote doesn't make any sense within the context of the show, or Pinkie's a white power skinhead.

Oh yeah, and how is Pinkie Pie beat-boxing so well with her tongue still swollen?!?!

Whatever. Five for evil, I guess.

RocketBlender - 2013-05-29

My analysis was much easier; I wouldn't bother with this song before the addition of ponies, so the addition of Flutterguy isn't enough to make me like it.

TheOtherCapnS - 2013-05-29

Ugh.

The New Meat - 2013-05-29

I know how to rate this.

memedumpster - 2013-05-29

You write these kinds of diatribes a lot, how much weed/meth/sugar do you have to inhale to work up the motivation? I want to know because I would like to be able to write anything as frequently and verbosely as you do about My Little Pony.

Also, this reminds me of all the MSI songs set to Pokemon flash videos from yesternet.

EvilHomer - 2013-05-29

No weed or meth, but a fair amount of sugar, and some serious, mostly untreated emotional issues. Having a boring job that doesn't require much concentration helps, too!

And yes, meme, you're exactly right about the MSI AMVs. I'd say that this video is slightly better (from a purely technical standpoint) than all those old Pokemon vids, because at least here, the creator clearly went to a lot of trouble drawing his own mouth animations and syncing them up with the lyrics. That's a nice touch, and it's that sort of attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile that's really warmed me up to bronies over these last couple years. I mean, yeah, they're all fags and nerds and whatever else, but they put a lot of thought and effort into what they do, especially when you compare them to other fandoms, like Sonic fans, juggalos, and furries. I certainly wouldn't be caught dead associating with bronies, but I'll give credit where it's due.

Spaceman Africa - 2013-05-29

ok this joke has run its course

Wander - 2013-05-29

I'm sorry that I gave you extra attention before, Evilhomer. I'll do my best to stop now.

EvilHomer - 2013-05-29

It's OK, Wander. We all make social mistakes!

You're a not bad poester. You just made a bad decision.

The New Meat - 2013-05-30

Masturbating to pictures of baby horses, crying when show creators try to appeal to children, and changing words in common speech to horse related analogues like they're trying to speak some weird Smurf tongue do not constitute putting "a lot of thought and effort into what they do."

Mancakes - 2013-05-30

I get the joke but just stop please.

RocketBlender - 2013-05-29

I think you meant it goes on for too long.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-05-29

I dont normally like reggie watts as I dont like joke-music (I think combining something else with music is usually to the detriment of the two)
But I liked this! I think his rapping is quite good!

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-05-29

*monocle*

Good Gawd, man! Do you mean to say you disdain the works of such masters as Weird Al Yankovic, Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer, and Weebl? Have you no taste for the arts, good sir?

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-05-29

Yeah, basically! I dont like opera either: music+drama
Though I have enjoyed one or two weeble things (look at my horse)

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-05-29

oops! meant to be a reply to kleenex

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-05-29

Also I just dont like them.. But I dont disdain stuff I dont like. Its all just subjective.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-05-29

Very well, but I cannot stop what is to come.

Tonight, you shall be visited by the Ghost of Alan Sherman. He will herald the arrival of three spirits...

EvilHomer - 2013-05-29

So let me get this straight... you don't like Weird Al?

Really? I've never met anyone who doesn't like Weird Al. Opera, I can see, buck opera, but Weird Al... not even a little?

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-05-30

Yeah.. I'm such a muso that I can't not hear and be turned off by the shitty bland music (weird als music is *not* good (I know thats on purpose)) which upsets me... After that I think that the comedic element loses a lot by having to be forced into the structure of the song.

I liked this thing cus it immediately struck me as a pretty good track, genuinely good rapping (though I'm bored with it now!)

I guess rap and bob dylan style talking on tone are sort of a mix of music + poetry /prose but in those cases the music is firmly in control and everything in in service of the track. And I do like me a lot of that rap shit and bob dylan :)

tethercat - 2013-05-29

I feel very proud for recognizing all the players of this drama as it unfolded, commencing the moment the British accent came into play.

I want to give no stars for no evil, but it's somewhat evil so it'll receive a merit of them, but it's not the single most evil thing ever seen on this site, so it couldn't be a starcucopia.

Three stars, because.

CIWB - 2013-05-29

Nope.

il fiore bel - 2013-05-29

HAHA!

PONIES!

SAYING DIRTY WORDS!

IN VOICES THAT ARE CLEARLY NOT THE ORIGINAL!

EvilHomer - 2013-05-29

ACTUALLY, Mister Smart Pony, in the original scene, Fluttershy was afflicted with a curse that altered her voice and made her sound like a guy. So the voices do, in fact, sound like the original.

Sheesh, talk about putting your hoof in your mouth. (^_^;)

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-05-30

Whats with all the pony hate? I really like this site just a place to see cool videos. I'm aware that its mandate is 'evil' videos but the evil videos tend to be videos of/by really really stupid/pathetic/misguided/shameless/etc. people. I think some poeple here like those videos as perhaps they themselves have a little bit of an inferiority complex and these particular kind of videos give them someone to look down on. eg. bronies.
I'm not interested in bronydom but if people wanna do that, thats fine. I mean most of human behavior is absolutely absurd and illogical and bronydom is just another facet of that craziness.

EvilHomer - 2013-05-30

My theory is that MLP has entered the Uncanny Valley between pure mockery and unironic appreciation, and many people just aren't ready for that. When everyone's on the same page, the Hive Mind exists in harmony. But now, roughly half of us are either receptive and pony-curious, or fully converted fans. That's sure to cause some backlash, as not everyone is comfortable with the idea of giving MLP a chance, and they don't know whether "laughing at the evil", like we used to do, will call their own manhood into question. "If I five this... will I become one of THEM?!"

Look at gangstalking: we all enjoy gangstalking, because we know that nobody else here takes it seriously. If it suddenly came to light that half of us were self-diagnosed TIs, it'd make the non-TIs very uncomfortable, and I expect we'd see a similar rash of reactionary one starring.

il fiore bel - 2013-06-22

I don't hate ponies. Just unoriginality.

And then thousands upon thousands of nerds flocking to it like it's the greatest thing ever. And apparently feeling the need to shove it down everyone else's throats.

I don't go out looking for these things and I'm not trying to stop anyone from having fun. But if one of these videos does end up here, I promise nothing.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-05-31

Yeah, I dont like the gangstalking vids at all!! They are really boring and not good. I'm aware of various mental illnesses and I'm not going to learn much more by watching them.
I know the mandate is 'evil' but a suprising amount of genuinely cool/fun/interesting/topical videos appear here and thats why I frequent this site.
This video was a 'fun' one
Are more video consumers like me appearing here? Like, I didnt know for years what poe even stood for!
(I initially thought poes law)
