Opie & Anthony, whose sole virtue is getting the best guest hosts like Patrice and Louis CK.
|
baleen - 2013-08-12 It's irritating. I have listened to some of the Louis CK bits from this show but they are good solely because he is good at his job. Opie & Anthony are annoying. It's interesting they are mocking the angry, cynical detachment of "hipsters" when that is their entire shtick.

Nominal - 2013-08-12 Would you call them the Who Wants Dessert of radio? I haven't seen that guy make a single comment that wasn't full of contempt.
|
jangbones - 2013-08-12 they are terribly unfunny

Workaholics is a show that I think got popular the same way Tosh.0 did. Comedy Central had a string of shows they would air and they all got horrid ratings and people hated it. Eventually they pumped in as much money as they felt needed into making shows before they just made some that had slightly better ratings and dumped the rest of the money they had into viral marketing to keep the shows afloat.
The show is like It's Always Sunny without any of the charm and uses a bunch of references to things the current generation a lot. Like they took the narcissistic, sociopathic Sunny characters and took away the things that made them funny or clever and put them in boring situations where things just happen that are kinda crazy but not funny.
There is just nothing appealing about this show to me in the least. It's like The Hangover movies. Nothing really funny happens, the writing isn't good and it's just a series of "LOOK AT THIS STUFF OVER HERE" scenes. Nothing connects, there is nothing clever and the dialogue relies on creating these stupid catchphrases they clearly decide beforehand that they really want people saying them in conversation after they see the episode

"Young successful people need to meet my vague and unknown expectations, especially when interviewing me. It consists primarily of kissing my ass, otherwise they are just hipster cunts and their show sucks. No one has had to grind harder than me, including people I don't personally know and I deserve their respect immediately."

They use "hipster" about as well as Poetv does.
Also Patrice stop being a fucking baby.
|
Spaceman Africa - 2013-08-11 Also love that Opie and Anthony are calling out other people on being irrelevant "nobodies"

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2013-08-12 "Man who spend a ridiculous amount of time rationalizing how owning a million guns is totally cool and hiding them around your house for when Obama comes for you is totally logical: A man with good opinions who I go out of my way to listen to"
-Nobody, ever
|
FABIO - 2013-08-12 I'm not debating that Anthony isn't the worst (Opie is merely bland), but Patrice is great.
What should an interviewer expect when he comes at a roaster of all people with such a phoney lame act? "Hey dude, kinda sort whatever I dunno, man. You gonna kidnap one of these girls? They are covered in powdered makeup, which looks like cocaine. Lots of celebrities do cocaine!"
He even gave the guy a second a chance saying he'll do the interview just drop the act, and the tool doubled down on the act.
|
NancyDrewFan123 - 2013-08-12 I think it might be a little late to tell Patrice to do anything.

literal death knells!

Hooker - 2013-08-11
Joke's on him. Workaholics outlived Patrice.

Drop dead funny.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2013-08-12
Workaholics is a.)funny b.)not a desperate attempt at copying the success of Chapelle's Show, which makes it leagues ahead of just about anything the network was making at the time

I get the feeling if I ended up in jail, during my daily hour of TV I'd end up watching Workaholics. That's the only scenario I can see myself willfully watching that show.

DerangedGoblin - 2013-08-12
I have no problem whatsoever with Patrice O'Neal, and I have never seen a single minute of Workaholics, but this interview is so... I don't know. Brownnosey?
"I have a problem with these Workaholics kids,"
"PSSH! YEAH THEY SUCK BALLS, HAHA, WHAT THE FUCK, SO SHIT, Who are they? I have never heard of them."
|
bac - 2013-08-12
I don't know how to rate this. I'm rather surprised there are people who like Patrice O'neal more than workaholics. Then again I'm surprised there are people who like opie and fucking anothony.
The five stars are actually for all of the people here who don't have the foggiest fucking idea what a hipster is. If this was 10 years ago I'd assume people were intentionally fucking with the meaning of the word for kicks. Sadly I know this is not the case.

|
Scrimmjob - 2013-08-12 I think part of the reason the word hipster gets thrown around so much is because it's no longer socially acceptable to call people faggots.

This is the equivalent of an old man telling kids to get off his lawn.

VaultDweller13 - 2013-08-13
don't give a rat's ass to Workaholics. But that guy had it coming and Patrice simply delivers what he asks for. Well-deserved.

This is a great time capsule to look back on people so banally contrarian that they were willing to say that Workaholics was funnier than Patrice O'Neil.
