alien's influence presented by jonathan goldstein
Geez. I'm no Alien historian and even I know about the C64 version which was about as faithful to the feel of the movie as a videogame could have been back then.
Faithful? perhaps. Confusing as fuck? definitely.
I hope someone told him how to pronounce "Byzantine."
I was watching some British documentary (I think it was Planet Earth) and heard it pronounced that way, like "BYE" instead of "Bis" like in "Business." But yeah. Homeboy ain't British. This wasn't too interesting but I feel justified in what I said about Cormac McCarthy's The Counselor and that Ridley Scott is the most influential auteur of the late 20th century. Still haven't seen The Counselor though.
As for the Metroid comparisons, just because she's a woman doesn't mean that they're the same concept. Granted I only played the original and Super Metroid, but in that universe there are the good aliens and the bad ones, and throughout the Alien movies they only tend to get more and more evil towards the human race, killing dogs and taking their power, learning how to swim, etc. They're why you root for Predator or Freddy Kruger respectively. So comparing Metroid to Alien is like comparing Pacific Rim to Godzilla.
I saw Isolation on Redbox the other day and thought about checking it out (the 360 version), but something about an FPS without the "S" for the most part just seems.. I dunno. Plus, how strong is this Alien? It's been a while since I saw it, but the flamethrower would've worked if it's being used like it is in the footage here. The rest of the movie could just be Harry Dean Stanton in Paris Texas in space.
