I’ve missed the interviews where John just stops hiding his utter loathing of the guest because they decided that they don’t have to give real answers for why they’re ruining peoples lives.

yogarfield - 2022-10-17

Rude Jon, Rude Jon!

Crackersmack - 2022-10-17

I'd genuinely like to see Jon Stewart debate somebody on this topic that has spent more than 5 seconds thinking about it. This woman is not only unprepared but also seems dumb as shit.

I don't like the comparison to cancer treatment, because cancer treatment is neither cosmetic nor elective and gender affirmation surgery is.

SolRo - 2022-10-17

Cancer treatment is totally elective. You can elect to die from the cancer naturally.

Crackersmack - 2022-10-17

Yeah but 'elective' in this context means necessary to treat a medical emergency. Nobody is gonna die if they don't get top surgery.

SolRo - 2022-10-17

Hey you should watch your own video again, John has good replies to your dumb assumptions.

jfcaron_ca - 2022-10-17

Some people (including children) commit suicide when they are prevented from receiving gender-affirming care, or when the society around them tells them they are a problem that shouldn't exist.

Crackersmack - 2022-10-17

Suicide is not the same thing as cancer. A teenager threatening suicide to get their way on something is abusive behavior and shouldn't be tolerated. Cosmetic surgery, and that's what gender-affirming surgery is, is not the same thing as chemotherapy.

SolRo - 2022-10-17

Oh hey Evilhomer is back.

Great.

Gmork - 2022-10-17

Anyone still talk to EH? I never really asked what the deal was with him leaving/getting the boot.

yogarfield - 2022-10-18

I think his MLP fursuit morphed into his being, and hooves are too clumsy to log in. He's been trotting on a keyboard to nowhere for a while now.

jfcaron_ca - 2022-10-19

I said gender-affirming care, not just surgery. This could include anything from counselling (with a compassionate person) to hormone substitution. Afaik there is and has never been any gender-changing surgery done on minors, at least in Canada.

If you can't distinguish between just being emo and actual clinical depression leading to suicide then I'm done arguing.

Crackersmack - 2022-10-19

what other forms of clinical depression are treated with elective cosmetic surgery? serious question

and I don't think anybody sincerely has a problem with counseling, it's the surgery and hormones/puberty blockers that seem rather shocking when done to minors, which is definitely happening in the US

cognitivedissonance - 2022-10-19

Nobody just starts with a suicide threat. The suicide threat is the last stop.

Crackersmack - 2022-10-20

yes unfortunately some people are suicidal for various reasons, including (sadly) some children.

still not sure how we ethically get to surgery on a minor from there

HarrietTubmanPI - 2022-10-20

How about just listening to the AMA?
https://www.ama-assn.org/press-center/press-releases/ama-state s-stop-interfering-health-care-transgender-children

They would know more about the best way to medically treat people than you would.

Crackersmack - 2022-10-20

The AMA is an opponent of not just Medicare For All but the concept of universal healthcare in general. They have spent millions lobbying since the 1960s against anything that would reduce the cost of healthcare, or make it more accessible. I would fully expect that the AMA supports the promotion of elective cosmetic surgeries, represented as critical mental health care, that can easily run deep into six figures.

HarrietTubmanPI - 2022-10-23

Now that is some cognitive dissonance mixed with spurious reasoning added with a dash of a tin foil hat.

By your logic, all recommendations for surgery by the AMA are cosmetic only and are only represented as critical health care so the US healthcare system can make more money.

You seriously didn't think your argument through.

Crackersmack - 2022-10-23

no I'm just saying that the AMA will never recommend against a profitable line of medical products for ethical reasons, you're misunderstanding the purpose of the AMA.
