No senator has ever been pardoned, but plenty of reps have been. If Bush were to do this it would be pretty damaging to the party in the short term.

Of course Sen. Stevens isn't going to jail, that would be un-American. Going to jail is for the common people and the poor. If you're any one or combination of rich, powerful or famous the mere embarrassment of going to trial is clearly punishment enough.
