Wow, I really wish there was an easy way to get some of the books and things related to Asterix in the US. I remember one video that I watched once as a kid and liking it, but I don't know the name of it. I remember a scene about bureaucracy and that's it. This video makes me want to see the whole movie, but not in bits and pieces on You Tube. Still, it's brilliant stuff, very quick and silly.

This is not one of the better stories. For the sake of a self-contained plot this story is about one of those characters that isn't one of the regulars.

If you want to read Asterix you can download most of the comic books off the net as .cbr files that can be renamed as .zip files to be decompressed as images. As a general rule the earliest books are the best. The quality dropped once once the head writer died.

"The Twelve Labors of Asterix", I believe.

'Earliest' being the first 26 books. The first couple weren't that great either, but most of them are storming. 'The Roman Agent' is my personal favourite. I've never liked the films, though. The voices and the timing are too broad. They're self-consciously wacky slapstick. The books are about the sly wit.

I'm torn here. I like animation, but its French.

Cena_mark - 2009-10-30

-4 for being French.

Cena_mark one-stars the Statue of Liberty.

NEVER LEAVE US CENA, AND NEVER BREAK CHARACTER!

Oh yeah, and Asterix is fuckin' awesome. So is the cartooning.

mouser - 2009-10-30

You are all tools. Asterix is Belgium.

kiint - 2009-10-31

Goscinny and Uderzo (or however the fuck you spell it ) were a Belgian/French duo I think. And anyway its all Gaul.

I remember Asterix comics being in my grade school library and me being really mystified by them. I figured out they were European but that's about it.

Smellvin - 2009-10-30

Vikings didn't exist in 50 BC. :(

But on the other hand, French people realized that the most cowardly man should be somewhere in France.

That is some fine animation quality right there. I've been meaning to read Asterix for a dog's age now.

Also: I really like the Cellular Pigeon for some reason.

I would stake my life on that being Paul fucking Giamatti.

YES! I live another day.
