I was friends with the guy who headed up the television side of the XFL for NBC.
He said the McMahons were very bizarre business partners and played everything close to the vest for absolutely no reason. They would be in a high level meeting with NBC executives and producers, and the McMahons would literally start whispering to each other and refusing to answer questions like they were at a deposition. They would make important decisions about programming and not say anything about them to NBC or to anybody else. And they would insist on changing the most minor things at the last minute.
He said the whole thing was extremely stressful. It the most he ever got paid his entire life, and when the XFL died, he told me he literally wept with joy.
