So, I want to make this secret society. Because I'm literally cold-blooded. I am a honest-to-God reptile that can reason and can disguise myself as a human being. The society will surreptitiously control the world, control it so well that nobody will ever know any of the details of how I do it. That's the easy part.
Here's the hard part. I want to leave vague but ambiguous clues to our existence. Not our machinations or our activities. Just our existence and our cultural symbols. And they have to be in everything. Everything ever made by anyone ever will have some reference to us. The reason for this is that, to those that pick up on it, it will drive them insane. But there needs to be a fine balance. Too subtle and nobody will ever see the signs, while too obvious will simply play our hand. Naturally, inserting these clues into society will represent the the majority of what we do.
