It'd be cool if some aspiring filmmaker could somehow use this as a practical effect, but it'd probably be cheaper and easier to just use CGI. Still awesome though.
It wouldn't be cheaper and easier, except for the director, producers, and other people who love to turn good ideas into crap.
CGI is actually as or more expensive in a lot of cases, filmmakers just use it anyway because it's the thing to do now and they are fat lazy slobs.
