Trackers are, in my humble opinion, probably the best sequencers ever made. Their dense interface kept them from true greatness, but damn were they flexible and fast. Not to mention small and extremely memory efficient.
I got Protracker in my hands when I was about 10 years old. I slowly but steadily advanced to Bars & Pipes and Octamed and even had a brush with the THX (later renamed AHX) tracker.
These days it's all Logic Audio this and Pro Tools that.
I got my start in Music Construction Set on the C64 and later graduated to some ProTracker clone on the PC and then eventually found Impulse Tracker and I used that for years and years until I finally got sick of all the minutiae you had to deal with before you could even make music. (Now I use Logic.)
But I do somewhat miss this means of making music.
