We had a crazy guy push a "scalar EM wave" experiment at our lab a while back, it was really bizarre. He was claiming that he could generate power by exploiting zero point energy or some such nonsense, but what he apparently didn't understand was the concept of phase in a circuit with a complex load.

Ah yes. A co-worker at a previous job had a sister who was very into this sort of thing, claimed scalar weaponry had been used to somehow create Hurricane Katrina.
