yeah there's pretty much no way this is going to be as good as the book
BOOSH - 2009-05-15
goddamn it
Tstyle - 2009-05-15
I don't remember one explosion in the book. But I am still excited for this.
godot - 2009-05-15
Where the hell is the grocery cart? Why is the dead wife so prominent? Why all the damn flashbacks?

This really needed to be filmed by Sukorov (see his "Mother and Son" for the right look) or Tarr (watch the long, lingering takes in "Satantango" or "Werckmeister Harmonies"). Hollywood is simply incapable of tackling the book.

Can't rate, fists still shaking at the screen.
Camonk - 2009-05-15
Jesus dude. Take a breath. They show the shopping cart. The director said he's making the wife more prominent than in the book. I'm sure the trailer just emphasizes the exciting parts. Be cool.

chumbucket - 2009-05-15
agreed, I think this will be an excellent adaptation. Esquire said it best: http://www.esquire.com/features/movies/the-road-movie-review-0609

"When they do move, the father and the son progress through a quietly seething dream, a world at its end. When they run from danger, they clank and rustle and seem wetly destined to never get away."

That sounds about right.

zatojones - 2009-05-15
OK that's good the hear

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2009-05-15
That esquire article put me at ease.

spencer - 2009-05-15
One of the trailers for No Country For Old Men made IT look like an action movie. With that in mind, this looks good. Not what I envisioned while reading the book, but I still think it'll be a good adaptation.
StanleyPain - 2009-05-15
Now I'm wondering why the movie's release was delayed. Did they actually re-edit it to make it less like the book and more "exciting", or is the trailer just shitty?
It's too bad if the studio did fuck up the movie, because all the initial pre-release buzz when it was supposed to come out was that it was an outstanding interpretation of the book and the few people who saw screenings said it might even be Oscar contender material.
rapsnacks - 2009-05-15
Pretty sure it's just a hack trailer. Note Howie Long scream at 2:30, there's no way that's in the movie.

rapsnacks - 2009-05-15
2:03, rather.

pressed peanut sweepings - 2009-05-15
Where the hell did that scream come from, anyways? Is Howie Long some kind of mutant?

FABIO - 2009-05-15
"Hack" is right.

If you're a movie trailer editor and find yourself going with the "heartbeat" fading to black montage at the end, kill yourself.

five stars for naming that bizarre scream, its bothered the shit out of me ever since they used it in star craft.

Aelric - 2009-05-16
so THAT is what that scream is called. Lifelong quest status: complete. Shutting down.

Lurchi - 2009-05-15
This looks like it would be the best movie ever, if it didn't look like shit compared to the book.
delicatessen - 2009-05-15
Yup, looks like pittsburgh to me.
sliggy - 2009-05-15
Not Pittsburgh, Braddock.

Lum - 2009-05-15
I love the The Proposition, I love Cormac McCarthy, and I love Omar Little, so I'm seeing this no matter what.
GiantAtomicFreak - 2009-05-15
Hey it's Jack McCall! Cynicism slightly lightened.
CornOnTheCabre - 2009-05-15
also Francis Wolcott. i can't really decide which Deadwood role I liked him in more.

GiantAtomicFreak - 2009-05-23
Hmm. I guess we'd better watch Deadwood again on DVD to decide.

Stog - 2009-05-15
Eh. It's not the same, but it looks like it'll still be pretty fun to watch.
zatojones - 2009-05-15
"fun" is not an emotion I equate with The Road

I shall have you know that I will be writing an angry review about this movie ON THE INTERNET

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-05-15
I didn't read the book because I was afraid it would depress the fuck out of me. The movie looks more depressing than Children of Men and I'm not sure I could take that.
spencer - 2009-05-15
The book is very depressing. I read it during the winter months and it certainly took its toll on me. But once you start reading it, you can't really stop.

voodoo_pork - 2009-05-15
SPOILER ALERT: There are fish at the end.

Tstyle - 2009-05-15
And it is as close to a happy ending that any Cormac McCarhy book comes.

crote - 2009-05-15
I sure as hell hope this is a misleading trailer.
