Well now you're just flagrantly abusing the "anime that doesnt suck" tag.
chumbucket - 2009-08-28
and David Lynch
MongoMcMichael - 2009-08-28
Not really. The director forced his entire artistic staff to watch 'Twin Peaks' and basically said, "DO THIS, ONLY WITH PINK HAIR."

This was the result.

MrBuddy - 2010-01-11
Twin Peaks is surealism, the quote "It was like the best dream and the worst nightmare" is used several times in the series. Revolutionary Girl: Utena has a hidden meaning and when you find out what it is, even the silly episodes become heart breaking.

Lurchi - 2009-08-28

dupe you motherfucker

how do I rate it
Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2009-08-28

Xenocide - 2009-08-28
This is ridiculous. None of those swords were lesbians.
papa_november - 2009-08-28
i don't see the "footage reusal" tag
erratic - 2009-08-28
please take down the "anime that doesn't suck" tag for this one
MongoMcMichael - 2009-08-28
Sorry! I don't see anything else under the linked tags more deserving of the tag. 'Animatrix'?

This was one of my favorite shows when I was in college. It still has a special place in my heart. It takes the strangeness of school life (ivory tower academia, competing against other students, falling in and out of love) and then twists and exaggerates them using a surreal filter. The backstory of each of the characters was also well done.
Triggerbaby - 2009-08-28
A nice review, but you one-starred "Care Bears Stars - Trap and Slaughter". Let's not pretend your opinion actually counts.

Nikon - 2009-08-28
You're so cute when you're upset.

Toenails - 2009-08-28
You five-starred "Hamster on a Piano!" so you're rebuttal doesn't actually count either.

Nikon - 2009-08-28
Let it go, man. Also:

Toenails - 2009-08-28

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-08-29
I've long since forgiven Nikon for one-starring that, and that's all that matters.

mashedtater - 2009-08-29
oh no, toenails!

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-08-29
Hamster on a Piano > this

Mister Shady - 2009-08-28
Gotta vote this down. Way too much crapime is getting through the hopper.

Anyone who knows anime knows this series is epic. It starts off as slightly weird but typically shoujo, then slowly begins to rape your mind. Don't judge it by its trappings; it will rock your world.
Dharma - 2009-08-28
And in the movie she turns into a car!
Toenails - 2009-08-28
The animation team was the same ones responsible for "Sailor Moon".

If this doesn't deserve five stars, then I'm uploading the movie to shut all the haters up.
Triggerbaby - 2009-08-28
Okay, so the majority of folks rating this high seem to have some sort of secret knowledge of parts of this series that don't suck. How about somebody submit a good clip so that we can all appreciate it? Because so far, the evidence before us uninitiated suggests this is bog-standard japoshit.

MongoMcMichael - 2009-08-29
The big problem is, there's not one moment you can point to in the series and say, "Wow, that's just biffed up." It's more of a slow burn: you're initially unsettled by the over-the-top character designs, the weird set-up, and the epic orchestral metal accompanying each sword fight. Then, the series gets more and more deranged as the viewer delves into the characters' psychoses, until the strangeness happening on screen seems merely symptomatic of the storyline's rampant sexual perversion.

Oh yeah, and it's also supposed to dissect fairy tale archetypes at the same time.

So, basically, it's one of those 'you gotta watch it' shows. For the uninitiated, it might look like everything that's wrong about anime, but for those in the know, that's what makes it so right. It's meta-anime.

Riskbreaker - 2009-08-29
Just the Sailor Moon "R" part.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-11-16
The majority of the folks rating this high are doing so because they have good tastes.

It really is as simple as that.

frau_eva - 2010-06-02
Pretty much all the moments that made me scream HOLY SHIT can't be taken out of context in a five minute clip. There's the big reveal that takes an entire story arc to build up to and has secret hints to once you rewatch it, there's characters doing things to each other that are insanely fucked up but only make sense if you know their backstory, etc. It's just not a story that you can take piecemeal at all.

Vaidency - 2009-08-28
Good for Japan being open minded enough about sex to have a show about a flagrantly gay cross-dressinger, but it's still got the same distractingly bad character designs and cliched tropes that make anime suck.
Vaidency - 2009-08-28
Great spelling by me there. At any rate, I've never heard of this show before, so maybe later episodes are great, but this clip sure doesn't make me want to watch any more of it.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-08-29
I'm noticing a pattern. People who don't like this show can't spell.

Vaidency - 2009-08-29
Yeah, I set myself up for that by not bothering to proofread my comment, but I'd still rather be a member of the "can't spell" subset than the "anime fan" one, so all's well.

phalsebob - 2009-08-29
There have been perhaps two watchable anime ever produced. All there rest is nothing but endlessly recycled cliches and trite, shallow style. Often done artlessly. This makes anime unique among artforms. It is consistently shit. Even Rockin' Country enjoys a higher rate of success at not sucking. Anime is the Scientology of arts.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-08-29
That's a lot of effort just to tell everyone you have terrible tastes.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-08-29
This show was amazing. It got everything it was aiming for perfectly right.

Awesome music, too.
Nikon - 2009-08-29
Tenchi Souzou Sunawachi and Last Evolution are among my faves.

Nikon - 2009-08-29
And that should be Tenshi above.

MongoMcMichael - 2009-08-29
Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku - Absolute Destiny: Apocalypse

bongoprophet - 2009-08-29
yeah I won't lie, I loved this show

memedumpster - 2009-08-29
I am five starring this because of how terrible this clip is.
Riskbreaker - 2009-08-29
Trippy show, not the biggest fan or anything but this was a unique series. I have to see the movie one of these days, i heard is even more bizarre.
Caminante Nocturno - 2009-08-29
You owe it to yourself to see the movie.
