fatatty America's strategy for encouraging excellence in nerds is based around making them think that dumb jocks are the most important asset in America and that they will never have any friends. This leads nerds to the "I'll show you mentality" as they obsess over their nerdy talents to prove they're better than the jocks.
Revenge of the Nerds is of course just one piece of government propaganda to perpetuate this cycle.
